From 2001 to 2007, he worked as a legal assistant for the Florida House. He owns a marketing company and has taught in Walton County, Florida. He received the endorsements of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and Florida Right to Life. He was opposed in the election by Democratic Sheriff John McDaniel of Jackson County, Florida, to replace Republican Don Brown, whose term limits had expired.
