A state may also suspend an individual's driving privilege within its borders for traffic violations. Many states share a common system of license classes, with some exceptions, and commercial license classes are standardized by federal regulation at 49 CFR part 383.[1][2] Contents 1 History 2 Standard and special licenses 3 Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL) 3.1 CDL endorsements 4 Foreign... Once, as an executive order that was later withdrawn, then revamped as a legislative bill, which was defeated in the New York State Senate, and finally introduced as an administrative measure through the Department of Motor Vehicles and withdrawn again after heavy public and political opposition. Contents 1 First and second plans 1.1 Reaction 1.2 Senate vote 2 Third plan 2.1 Reaction 3 References First and second plans [edit] Applicants for driver's licenses would not be required to prove legal immigration status and would be allowed to present a foreign passport as identification.[2] At that point, eight other states did not require individuals to prove their legal immigration status when applying for a driver's licenses.[3] Spitzer s...
