The Churchville Test Area is a United States Army facility of the Aberdeen Proving Ground, located northeast of Bel Air, Maryland (in Harford county, Maryland, USA). The Churchville Test Area (39°35′46″N 76°15′11″W / 39.596°N 76.253°W / 39.596; -76.253Coordinates: 39°35′46″N 76°15′11″W / 39.596°N 76.253°W / 39.596; -76.253) is a hilly set of cross-country road test tracks providing a variety of steep natural grades and tight turns designed to stress engines, drivetrains and suspension systems for Army vehicles, such as the M1 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradley fighting vehicle and the Humvee. The Test Area consists of 11 miles (18 km) of interconnected roads and test courses located on 250 acres (1.0 km2), with both 3- and 4-mile (6.4 km) closed loop courses, mud, dust and gravel surfaces, and grades ranging from 7% to 29%. On March 21, 2007, the Army celebrated the designation of a 163.5-acre (0.662 km2) buffer-zone alongside the ... (see more)

Marty Padgett Marty Padgett is a United States based motoring journalist, and the executive editor of The Car Connection. Born in 1969, Padgett is a native of Washington, D.C., and grew up in southern Maryland before going to college at Duke University (history, '91, with honors) and moving to Michigan. He edited the news section in Car and Driver magazine for five years and wrote road tests. He also appeared on several national radio television programs including CNN's TalkBack Live and Fox Morning News.[1] After a short turn in public relations at Mercedes-Benz in Alabama, Padgett moved to Atlanta, where he began writing for publications like Details, Men's Health, Stuff, and AutoWeek.
