  • Automobile License Plate Collectors Association

The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA) is the largest such organization in the world.[1] Founded in Rumney Depot, New Hampshire, United States, in 1953 and holding its first meeting in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, in 1954, its members have come from all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia (often state subsidiaries exist as well) and twenty-four other countries, although the bulk of its members reside in the United States, followed by Canada, Germany, and Australia. Despite the club's name, many members also collect and exchange license plates from vehicles other than automobiles. ALPCA currently has 3,183 registered members and 10,921 registered member numbers,[2] although many of the earlier—and therefore lower-numbered—members are now deceased or are no longer members. When an individual joins, he or she is assigned a membership number, which started with #1 and are currently being issued in the 11,000 range. Members treasure their "ALPCA number... (see more)

  • Choose Life license plates

Choose Life license plates are specialty license plates available in 27 states in the United States that express a pro-life message. The plates are the concept of Choose Life, Inc., a pro-life advocacy group based in Ocala, Florida.[1] It was founded in 1997 by Randy Harris, a commissioner of Marion County, after he got an idea (when he noticed an environmental plate on the car in front of him, while stuck in traffic) to use specialty license plates as a way to raise funds for promoting adoption over abortion.[2] The plates feature the phrase "Choose Life", a slogan used by the pro-life movement, and a child art-like drawing of two children.[2] Florida Choose Life tag Contents 1 History 2 States with Choose Life license plates 2.1 States where Choose Life is working for approval 3 Reaction and criticism 4 Pro-choice license plates 5 See also 6 References 7 External links History [edit] In 1997, Choose Life, Inc. collected the 10,000 signatures and US$30,000 requir... • United States license plate designs and serial formats

    Image:2011CALicense.jpg

Main article: Vehicle registration plates of the United States In the United States, the appearance of license plates is frequently chosen to contain staples, cultures, or slogans associated with the issuing jurisdiction, which are the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, each of which independently registers motor vehicles. Formats for license plate numbers, which are usually alphanumeric, are chosen to provide enough unique serials for all motor vehicles a jurisdiction expects to register. For example, less-populous states such as Delaware and Rhode Island are able to use formats of 123456 and 123-456, respectively, while several populous states use seven-character formats, including 1ABC234 in California, ABC-1234 in Texas,[1] ABC-1234 in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, and Arizona, 1A/B2345 in Maryland, A12-3456 in Illinois, and 1234ABC in Indiana.[2] In some states, info such as the month of expiration or the county of regist...
